  10. Chapter I of Annex I to the EEA Agreement Chapter I of Annex I to the EEA Agreement contains the EU acts on trade in live animals, animal health and animal products. Chapter I of Annex I currently applies to Iceland only with regard to aquaculture animals and aquaculture and fisheries products. According to JCD No 133/2007, on review of the exemption EU acts on livestock products such as meat, milk and eggs should also apply to Iceland as of 1. November 2011.

The Parliamentary Committee for Fisheries and Agriculture stated in their written opinion when concluding its discussion on the Bill which became Act No 143/2009: The Bill is consistent with the relevant substantive provisions of the Decisions of the Joint EEA Committee, read in conjunction with Article 13 of the EEA Agreement, as regards the import of raw meat and eggs,…….according to Article 10 of Act No. 25/1993. The purpose of maintaining the present arrangements for imports is to safeguard current disease prevention as far as humans and animals are concerned with special reference to the long-standing isolation of Icelandic livestock, proven by experience to be particularly susceptible to certain diseases, some of which may not be a threat in other countries; the basis for the arrangements being Article 13 of the EEA Agreement.
