GEF INTERNATIONAL WATER SCIENCE CONFERENCE Imbalance between scientific research results and associated implementation Socio-economic conditions of the countries
GEF INTERNATIONAL WATER SCIENCE CONFERENCE Groundwater data and information acquisition and respective management actions are, in general, expensive and time-consumer (investigation wells, hydrogeological maps, water quality analysis, etc); These conditions are aggravated in the case of transboundary aquifers. Becoming worse if they are development countries; Percentage of financial and human resources allocated by governments are small and uneven among them; GEF portofolio projects are oriented to give support to development countries; Financial resources from GEF are generally effective in integrate countries in order to obtain and systematized data and information; Looking for technologies adapted to the regional conditions searching for cheaper and easy to handle equipment and methodologies, could minimize the imbalance between science output and groundwater management actions; Include in the GEF projects guidelines to seek development of more economical and locally oriented technologies.
