  1. Administrative Leadership and Policy Studies Principal Licensure Program It takes a partnership to prepare future principals

  2. Value of the Program • Earn principal licensure • Gain leadership skills and experience – clinical practice activities integrated with course content throughout program • Complete a graduate degree with just three extra courses beyond licensure curriculum

  3. Courses and Credits Completed in four consecutive semesters, including summers

  4. Metro-Area Cohorts • Each entering class forms a cohort, meeting in a particular school district in the Denver metro area • Evening class runs for three and a half hours and meets on same weeknight throughout 60-week program. • 32 credits broken down as: First Semester – 8 credits, Second Semester – 8 credits, Third Semester – 8 credits, Fourth semester – 8 credits • Online support, learning and work in between weekly class sessions • Applicants from all districts welcome

Distance-Learning Cohorts • Four-semester sequence begins every summer • 32 credits broken down differently: Summer – 9 credits, Fall – 9 credits, Spring – 9 credits, 2nd Summer – 5 credits • Optimal for the professional who lives far away from Denver or who prefers not to meet on a weekly basis • Weeklong face-to-face “boot camp” in first June, two intensive face-to-face weekends in fall, two intensive weekends in spring, final intensive weekend in 2nd summer – all face-to-face meetings on Downtown Denver campus • All other instruction completed online

Upcoming Cohort Summer 2010 Distance-Learning Cohort (DL#11)Start Date: June 14, 2010Location: Downtown Denver CampusDates and Times: Meets for a fulltime “boot camp” on June 14-18, 2010, followed by two intensive weekends (Friday evening through all day Saturday) in Fall 2010, two intensive weekends in Spring 2011 and a final intensive weekend in Summer 2011. All other course work is conducted online and at students’ clinical practice sites (usually their own schools).Application Deadline: March 15, 2010

Graduate Degree Options • Three additional courses (9 semester credits) earns a graduate degree • Credits usually taken after 32-credit licensure program, and may be transferred in from another institution • Master of Arts (M.A.)For those who do not already have a master’s degree, or who specifically need an M.A. • Education Specialist (Ed.S.)For those who already have a master’s degree

Master of Arts Degree Take one course from each of three categories: • Educational research • Educational foundations/multicultural education • Educational psychology/special education See Academic Advisor for specific course listings. In final semester, complete comprehensive exam paper that is 10-15 pages in length and tells how the three courses will help you in your role as a principal or administrator.

Education Specialist Degree • Take all three courses in a single, focused area, to be determined by student and faculty advisor. • In final semester, complete comprehensive exam paper that is 10-15 pages in length and tells how the three courses will help you in your role as a principal or administrator.

Application Process: Materials • Application checklist can be found at http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/SchoolOfEducation/Apply/Pages/AdministrativeLeadershipPolicyStudies.aspx • Graduate Application Part 1 and In-State Tuition Classification form • $50 application fee (see coupon in this presentation for fee waiver info for Summer 2010 admission) • Resume • Written Statement, explaining interests and goals in relation to the program • Online written response – see checklist for more details • Photocopy of current teaching or special services license (At least three years experience as a teacher or special services provider is preferred) • Three letters of recommendation, including one from principal • Two official transcripts in sealed envelopes from each previous college or university • GRE scores may be required – depending on previous academic record • Interviews may be required, depending upon the cohort (we will notify applicants if this is a requirement)
