First Years… • I enjoyed my first years of life along Rooks Creek in a rural area near Pontiac, Illinois. • My mother taught 4th Grade and introduced me to the love of teaching and learning. • During those years I remember reading books and playing school with my friends and family. • One year I created a diorama of Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, and showed it at the Livingston County 4-H Fair. • Another summer I remember helping my mother teach her summer school students reading skills. • I also remember exploring the creek like Mark Twain’s character, Huck Finn. I read the book and portrayed Huck Finn in seventh grade as I did an oral report with mud smeared legs and bare feet.
Exploring College Life • I began college at Orange County Community College in Middleton, New York during the Fall of 1987. I enjoyed it, but it was too far from home. • The following spring semester I transferred to Normal, Illinois to begin college at Illinois State University. • I worked a few jobs during my college career. I enjoyed waiting tables at Red Lobster, and a sales position at Limited Express. • I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in December 1991.
Teaching: • I worked as a substitute teacher for one semester. • In 1992 I began teaching grades three and four at Otter Creek-Hyatt School in rural Streator, Illinois. • From the fall of 1992 until the school consolidated with Ransom I continued to teach at Otter Creek-Hyatt. • For two years I taught second and third grade at Ransom School.
Family: • I married my husband in 1998. • We gave birth to our first daughter, Payton in May of 2002. • At the beginning of the 2004 Fall, we invited a second daughter into our lives, Grace. • They enriched my life and knowledge of children.
Closer to Home: • I applied for a teaching position in our home town, so I could be closer to my children. • I began as a grade school librarian in our home district of Flanagan, Illinois. • I enrolled in online classes to earn my school librarianship certificate. • I look forward to hiring an author to entertain and inspire our students annually. • Family Reading Night is one of my favorite days of the year. It is great to see families enjoying reading, and each other. • In the fall of 2013 I started working in both the grade school and high school library as the librarian.
