  3. Part 1 (Harriet) SUBJECT—The subject is the naming part of the sentence. The subject names whom or what a sentence is about.

Sentence Smack-Down • Get in a group of 3. • Your group will receive a sentence. • Read the sentence together and decide what the subject is and what the verb is. • When asked, you will come to the front of the room and complete the SMACK-DOWN • (1) Reader reads the sentence aloud, (2) Subject slaps “subject” and says the subject as the reader reads it, (3) Verb slaps “verb” and says the verb as the reader reads it.
