  1. What to Drink You’ll be thirsty from all that being Awesome in Ottawa. You’ve earned yourself a drink!

  2. Coffee A very important thing.

  3. Bridgehead • This is an Ottawa coffee shop chain that features organic and fair trade coffee. • It has a number of locations throughout the city, all decorated with metal, wood and Eames.

  4. Planet Coffee • This chic coffee shop is found down through the scenic back lanes of the Byward Market. • It is a hot spot for informal meetings, studying and mostly people-watching. • The coffee isn’t great, but no one seems to mind. • The pastries and lunches are good though :)

  5. Raw Sugar • This Chinatown coffee shop is not your average coffee shop. • It has daytime and late night hours, but if you’re looking for early morning caffeine you can forget it. • It hosts a variety of great events, especially concert. • Every Tuesday there is a Beats and Boards event where DJ’s Hobo, Dutchy and Sweetcheeks DJ while people play board games.

  6. Tim Horton’s • If you’re going to go true Canadian, you’ll have to make a stop off at the Timmies. • This iconic Canadian company is fast and cheap. • They often feature a lottery where you roll up the rim of your coffee cup to see if you’ve won a prize. It’s cleverly called “Roll up the rim to win!”

  7. Beer Ottawa is all aflutter with Micro Breweries.

  8. Beau’s • The one that started it all. • This all natural, organic brewery started up a few years back out of Vankleed Hill and has caught on like wild fire thanks to the charm and hard work of the owners. • The marketing is clever and they’re always up for a celebration. • The flagship beer, Lug-Tread, is a light beer that can be enjoyed all year round at your favorite Ottawa haunt. • It also features seasonal beers and a Wild Oat series. • They also deliver!

  9. Kichesippi • Next in line is Ottawa’s own Kichesippi. • These quirky guys are at every event you can think of pulling hilarious stunts. They have a beer bike for goodness sake! • Their Flagship beers are the Blonde and the heavier 1855. • These beers are becoming more available throughout town and at the LCBO.

  10. Broadhead • This newish brewery with a great sense of humour is now becoming available on tap in certain Ottawa restaurants, like the Mellos Supper Club.

  11. Big Rig • This new West End brewery has a number of beers on offer. • It has its own restaurant where you can sample all the flavours with yummy bites of food.

  12. The Clocktower • This brew pub is the actual Original Gangsta in Ottawa. • It has a variety of beers and locations with patios upon which to enjoy them. • Thirsty?

  13. Mill St. • This Toronto Brewery has a beautiful Ottawa outpost. • Their more popular beers include the Organic, the Tankhouse, the Coffee Porter, etc. • There are some specifically Ottawa-based beers on offer at the brewery as well. • Their restaurant’s menu is quite a playful take on pub grub.

  14. Honourable Mentions • Ottawa is also surrounded by excellent microbreweries such as St. Ambroise, Flying Monkeys, Wellington, Muskoka, etc…
