Career Clusters • WSFCS offers all students opportunities to take courses in a career cluster • Examples - Finance Academy, Health Science, Human Service, Hospitality & Tourism • Students who complete Career Clusters are required to take the Work Keys exam
Military Representatives • ASVAB administered at East Forsyth November 4 • ASVAB is required for entrance and job placement • Military representatives are on campus weekly
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Batter (ASVAB) • Required for all branches of the military • Can be used as a career interest inventory • ASVAB will be administered at East – November 4 • Taking the test DOES NOT place students on a list for military enlistment

College placement tests EFHS CEEB Code - 342015 • Register for SAT at www.collegeboard.org • Register for ACT at www.act.org • Students whose first language is not English may choose to take the TOEFL to supplement or replace SAT/ACT (dependent on college); register at www.ets.org/toefl • Scores should be sent directly to colleges/scholarship organizations/NCAA Clearinghouse by student (online)

Community College Placement Tests • Community Colleges accept SAT/ACT scores • If scores do not meet minimum requirements, students must take placement tests through community college (e.g. ACCUPLACER) • Visit www.forsythtech.edu for more information

Fee Waivers • Seniors can use up to 2 fee waivers for the SAT/ACT • Fee waivers available to students who provide verification of their free/reduced lunch status • Using a fee waiver for college entrance exams affords students the opportunity to use up to 4 fee waivers for college application fees (participating colleges only)
Scholarships & Financial Aid • Email Mrs. Hubbard to be added to listserv ahubbard@wsfcs.k12.nc.us • Start searching NOW and dedicate time to this “part-time job” • EFHS Scholarship Newsletter updated biweekly and posted on Guidance page • Use FREE online search engines like www.fastweb.com, www.cfnc.org, etc.) • Create an account with the Winston-Salem Foundation (www.wsfoundation.org) • Most scholarship organizations direct students to an online application; any hard copies of applications are located in file cabinet in Guidance (scholarship drawer) • Meet deadlines!
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) • REQUEST PIN NOW so you are prepared to begin working on the FAFSA January 1, 2015 – the first date the application is available • www.fafsa.ed.gov - web address in Senior brochure • Must complete FAFSA to qualify for federal grants, federal loans (Stafford, etc.) • Some scholarships require submission of FAFSA • CFNC FAFSA Day – February 28, 2015
NCAA Clearinghouse • All potential Division I and Division II athletes must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse to determine athletic elgibility • Official test scores (SAT/ACT) must be sent directly to NCAA electronically (NO COPIES) • NCAA Clearinghouse CEEB code – 9999 • Students who use fee waivers for SAT/ACT qualify for NCAA fee waiver; otherwise, students pay $75 to register • www.ncaaclearinghouse.net
Transcript Requests • Complete Transcript Request Form (for all transcript requests – including online applications; includes common application, cfnc, etc.) • Include Secondary Report Forms/Counselor Statements • First 2 transcripts for college admission are FREE • Additional copies are $2 each • All transcripts for scholarships are free & must be sent to organizations by students – UNLESS STUDENTS ARE NOMINATED BY EFHS

Recommendation Requests • Request Recommendations (allow 2 weeks) • Complete Senior Resume & Scholarship Interest form • Provide Addressed, Stamped Envelopes for teachers and community members to submit recommendations directly to colleges & scholarship organizations or students may mail them; Counselors do NOT submit as part of application process
