The children Act • What does this do? • Under the Act children have the right to be protected this is known as the Paramountcy Principle • Parents, Local Authorities and the courts have a duty to safeguard the welfare of children and in legal proceedings it is the best interests of the child that are the primary consideration when determining what action should be taken.

Financial abuse in the care setting • Individuals using services should, if they have the ability, be allowed to control their own financial affairs. • Just because they are being looked after by informal carers or professional carers, does not mean that they give up their right to manage their own financial affairs. • Task - Name ways that this could happen
