  2. Purpose of Meeting • To learn more about GSIS and the Y01 assessment process / expectations • To ask questions

  3. Place Availability 2014-15 A minimum of 12 places available for new students

  4. Assessments Assessment days • 3 days in January • 1 day in February • 1 day in March Further days are assigned , provided places are still available

  5. Assessment Team Led by Ms Stekelenburg, Head of English Primary Department 2 Lower Primary teachers 2-3 teachers who work across the Primary

  6. Assessment • Groups of up to 8 children • Each assessment group can take between one and one and a half hours • One-on-one assessment • Stress-free and relaxed • Oral assessment • Skills / Knowledge

  7. Assessments Other criteria include: • English: High level of acquisition • Identifying letters by sounds and name • Counting forward, backwards, number before, number after etc. • Matching pictures, elaborate on a picture, “odd one out” etc. • Conversational and social skills • Ability to adapt to new learning environment

  8. Assessment Results The Assessment Team assess their findings based on criteria and make a collaborative judgement.

  9. Assessment Results • Results are communicated to parents by mail • Allow 3-4 weeks

  10. Successful Applicants • Priority System is applied • Nationality (German, Swiss and Austrian passport holders) • Sibling • Parent is a teacher at GSIS • Alumni • Debenture • Date of Application • Short List for successful students for the entire school year

  11. Confirmation of Acceptance, School Fee Payment and Debenture • School Fee Payment due within two weeks • Non-refundable if you withdraw your acceptance • Debenture to be purchased

  12. Debentures • Choice of two debenture options*:Standard refundable debenture valued at HKD 375,000Development non refundable debenture at a value of HKD 262,500 • Debentures cannot be purchased prior to a place being offered • All students at GSIS must have a debenture prior to starting school • *The school reserves the right to change the value of debentures without any prior notice.

  13. Unsuccessful Applicants • Response form: • defer application • no response will result in your application being archived • Next possible assessment for the next year group

  14. Three Trial Rule • Starting with assessments for entry into the 2014/15 school year • Three Kindergarten / Primary assessments only • All previous assessments will be taken into account

  15. Starting at GSIS • Parents accompany child to Welcome Ceremony • School hours:7:40 am -12:30 pm • Further information about the start of school will be available in August.

  16. General Points of Interest • Languages: • Medium of instruction is English • German is taught from Year Two onwards • Mandarin is taught from Year Four onwards • Extra Curricular Activity Mandarin is introduced in Year One as an optional free afternoon activity.

  17. General Points of Interest • Music, PE, ICT and Library by Specialists • Counselling and Learning Enhancement provisions are available if necessary • Mandatory Bus Policy
