The Apaches Indians

2. Cultural regions • Apaches belong to the Southern Athabasca linguistic family. They center on hunting , raiding ,and taking care of ones tribe.

3. Their Foods They lived on a variety of plants. They were hunter-gathers the women gathers plants there favorite was the yucca and the mescal plant. They ate arrow heads , wild onions , and berries. They gathers many kinds of nuts, They buried their food for the winter . They also ate prairie dogs , dogs , squirrel , and rabbits . They would not touch fish or any animal that lived in the water.

4. Homes • The Apache Indians lived in what is now New Mexico and Arizona. They were a nomadic group of people and would at times travel They lived in one place for only short periods of time then moved. The women built their homes called wickiups. The wickiup was a small dome-shaped hut. as far south as Mexico.

5. Clothing • The men wore breechcloths in the summer, and a warmer outfit of deerskin in the winter of leggings and shirts. Both men and women wore highly designed sandals. • Apache women were dressers - t The women wore long skirts and blouses made of leather. Their skirts and blouses matched. They usually had a solid line around the bottom of the skirt, with a matching design on the blouse. Sleeves came just above the elbow to leave them free to work. In the summer, the but they were still matching outfits, and carefully designed.
