Wednesday and ThursdayJanuary 9 and 10, 2013 Daily Learning Target: I can create a PSA (Public Service Announcement) using propaganda and persuasive techniques.
Daily Learning Activities • Review PSA Requirements (5 minutes) • Complete PSA in media center (30 minutes) • Written Justification: After your PSA is complete, your group will write a justification about your PSA. The justification should include why the content of your PSA is important, how the content is relevant, and how your group used the persuasive appeals and propaganda techniques in the PSA. (15 minutes) • Radio PSA advertisement: Using the same topic from the PSA, create a radio ad. Remember in a radio ad, the audience is listening. Thus, you will need to have a catchy slogan and powerful words. Rhetorical questions work well in radio advertising. A radio advertisement will be no longer than 60 seconds. You need to sum up the information from the PSA in a concise yet informative manner. Be creative. Make your listeners understand your topic. DON’T forget ethos, pathos, and logos. (30 minutes) • Create rubric for Friday presentations. The PSA, the actual presentation, the written justification, and the radio PSA will be included in the grade. (10 minutes)
PSA Requirements • Your PSA must have at least six slides. • Logos, pathos, and ethos must be evident in the PSA. • Your PSA must include at least three of the propaganda techniques (bandwagon, emotional appeal, testimonial, expert opinion, repetition, rhetorical question, misleading claim, plain folk, snob appeal, glittering generalities, etc). • Your PSA must be continuous. You will NOT use the mouse to present. Make sure that the audience will have enough time to read the facts and information on the PSA. • Your PSA must have visual representations. • The PSA may include music or videos.
