  2. SMVS: Swati Mahila Vikas Samiti Location: Distt. Banda, UP Previous Funding : 2003 Rs. 56,200/- 2005 Rs. 64,600/- Project Details: - To improve condition of women in villages. - Educate girls in villages - Educate about gender related aspects and female hygiene - Practical training to make women independent.

  3. SMVS: Story so far.. 2003-2004: - Centers run in ‘Kacchiyan Purva’ and ‘Harijan Basti’ of Banda Distt. - Both centers have been withdrawn, since the opening of Govt. schools. - Centers opened in ‘Bharatpur’ and ‘Khairahan’ villages. 2004-2005: - Centre opened in ‘Kabra Purwa’. (boys and girls) - Put pressure on authorities for propoer functioning of Govt. school in ‘Bharatpur’. This centre will be withdrawn in April 2006, since the Govt. school is functioning properly now.

  4. SMVS: present status - Currently 3 centers are running. 1 will be discontinued in April 06. - Sewing classes started in ‘Bharatpur’ on community demand - Organized health workshop to spread awareness about health and hygeine - Working on women issues in the area, providing legal and moral support

SMVS: Evaluation - Basic education to children (mainly girls) - Caters to under-developed and backward socio- economic community - Women empowerment - Community support - Successful involvement of Government Questions: - Long term goals? - Means to become self-sufficient? - Statistics of children who have left the centre? - Profit-run system?
