18. SEXUAL INTERCOURSE What exactly does "having sex" mean? "Having sex" can mean many things. • It can refer to intimacy or closeness between a man and a woman, between two men or between two women. • "Having sex" doesn't just mean when a man's penis enters a woman's vagina.

35. Sexually Transmitted Diseases STD • Infection spread by having SEX with another person who is infected. • SOME are curable , OTHERS are not • Those who have it might look HEALTHY, But they have it!

AIDS Acquired • Not born with the disease compared to most immune deficient conditions • *You can only be born with AIDS if your mother had AIDS when pregnant Immunodeficiency • Characterized by a weakened or ineffective immune system with no resistance to infections. Syndrome which means: • AIDS is a combination of signs and symptoms which occur together due to the HIV infection as well as many other infections as a result of theimmunodeficiency

AIDS….HIV HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus • This virus causes AIDS • It is an infection of the immune system • It destroys the body's ability to fight off infections. • It remains quiet for a  long time • Drug therapy only destroys the active virus, DOES NOT CURE • HIV infects the cells (T Lymphocytes) of the immune system weakening the entire system.

Bacterial Vaginosis The risk of acquiring Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is increased by: • changing  sexual partners • douching • using intrauterine devices (IUDs) The infection can not be spread from person to person by casual contact, such as: • clothing • eating utensils • swimming pools • toilet seats

48. Bacterial Vaginosis • When different types of bacteria outnumber the normal  bacteria, Lactobacillus, an imbalance is caused in the bacterial organisms that exist in the vagina.  • Caused by: Hemophilus ducreyi

Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms • Although more than 50% of women with Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) have no symptoms, when symptoms do occur they include the following: • Excessive, thin gray or white vaginal discharge that sticks to the vaginal walls • Fishy or musty, unpleasant vaginal odor, most noticeable after sex • Vaginal itching and irritation

50. CHANCROID • soft chancre • venereal sore  • bacterial disease causing painful, irregularly shaped sores, but is a localized infection which can be treated and cured and has no long-term effects.
