This complex went through several changes and enlargements throughout the 19th and 20th century, but the decision of installing the Madeira Legislative Assembly in this building was not made before 1982
The Legislative Assembly of Madeira, in Funchal, hosts the exhibition LIAISONS by the sculptor Francisco Simoes, a Portuguese postwar & contemporary artist who was born in 1946. The artist uses sculpture, painting, drawing and ceramics as forms of art that seem simple to the eye, but quite profound and complex in terms of technique and message. He received the 2018 Lusofonia Prize in Paris, in the Sculpture category and next year, some works by Francisco Simoes will become part of the collection of the Louvre Museum
The ‘Liaisons' exhibition is composed of works by the sculptor and others by several renowned artists who are part of his private collection, in a kind of 'connection' between themselves and with the spaces where the works are open to the public
