Amazing Thailand Pattaya
Pattaya was a fishing village until the 1960s. Tourism began during the Vietnam War, when American servicemen began arriving on R&R (rest and relaxation). One large group who arrived from a base in Korat on 1959 and rented houses from Phraya Sunthorn at the south end of the beach, on what is now known as the "Strip", are credited with recommending Pattaya, whose fame spread by word of mouth Internet images
The Sanctuary of Truth is an incredible temple/museum with the tallest spire reaching to 105 m, made entirely out of wood. Entirely! Not even metal nails are used in its construction. It’s the biggest attraction in Pattaya and one of the most significant landmarks in Thailand
The sanctuary was commissioned by the eccentric millionaire Lek Viriyaphan back in 1981, and it’s still being assembled to this day. It’s supposed to be finished around 2025, but I wouldn’t count on that
Lek Viriyaphan was a known patron of culture who spent a large chunk of his fortune on heritage projects (including two of Bangkok’s most picturesque attractions – the Erawan Museum and the Ancient Siam Park). The idea behind the Sanctuary of Truth was to honor Buddhist and Hindu values while simultaneously preserves and support traditional Thai wood-carving techniques. The local legend says that Mr.Viriyaphan decided to build the shrine in response to the growing tension of the cold war. It was his way to try and teach people to behave well, according to Buddhist teachings, so that we can achieve peace around the world
With exquisite architectural features, the sanctuary was conceived out of the vision that human civilization has been achieved and nurtured by religious and philosophical truths
Sanctuary of Truth The compound, which covers an area of more than two rais, is situated by the sea at Laem Ratchawet on Na Klua Road, North Pattaya. Within the compound is a gigantic temple-like structure entirely made of wood that is 105 meters high at the highest point which was constructed to withstand wind and sunshine on the seashore
The Sanctuary features a four-faced Brahma statue on its rooftop
The Southern Hall is centered on the sun, the moon, and the stars – the three creators of life. The sun controls the day and night, the moon controls the tides, while the stars control your destiny.
Each star (planet) represents a day of the week, and depending on which day you were born, you are destined to have a specific trait: Monday – Moon – Beauty and EleganceTuesday – Mars – Brave and IndustriousWednesday – Mercury – Gentle and PoliteThursday – Jupiter – Wisdom an IntelligenceFriday – Venus – Charm and WealthSaturday – Saturn – Activeness and Diligence Sunday – The Sun – Honorable and Social
Every surface of the structure is decorated with ornamentation from the Thai, Hindu, Buddhist, Chinese, and Khmer traditions
