BACKGROUND The Texas Southern University Economic Development Center (TSU/EDC) was established in 1981 to develop and implement community and economic development programs that provide services to the City of Houston and surrounding communities. Over the last 25 years, TSU/EDC has participated in the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program which has enabled TSU to increase its participation in community and economic development.
MISSION The mission of the TSU/EDC is to contribute to the continued growth and development within the City of Houston and surrounding communities by providing technical assistance in the areas of community revitalization, education and training needs of individuals, businesses and communities.
GOAL The goal of the Economic Development Center is to expand TSU’s role and effectiveness in providing for the community and economic development needs of the Houston-Galveston area by developing and implementing viable and effective community and economic development projects that provide resources, technical assistance, education and training for the small business sector, the homeless, the unskilled, the unemployed and the underemployed population.
