  3. Purpose and Objectives • Developing the vision: • Why are we doing this? • What does success look like? • Developing the objectives: • Improve quality and productivity of healthcare. • Better patient outcomes and population health. • Generate economic growth. • Leaders or Laggards?

  4. Establishing the Membership Footprint • Exactly who is going to be involved? • Providers of NHS Services. • NHS Commissioners. • Academia. • Industry. • Others? • Geographic and/or themed focus? • Strengths and sustainability. • What draws and binds members together? • What population size? • What is the track record? • Are all the major bases covered? • What about the neighbours? • What is the commercial model? Is the membership base innovative?

Developing the Governance and Leadership Model • Each AHSN could involve 30 member organisations….. • How can a Governance Model be designed which: • Meets good corporate governance standards. • Accommodates the (very) different size, scale, and complexity of the member organisation. • Recognises there will be competition, and may be conflicts of interest, between members. • Who will lead and manage the AHSN?

Developing the Strategy, Business Plan and KPIs • How will the AHSN: • Promote innovation and spread of good practice. • Drive service improvement. • Collaborate on education and training. • Create a patient centred informatics service. • Work in partnership with industry. • Link with the AHSCs. • What are the distinctive (unique) areas of focus for the AHSN? (Medical technology? Bio medicine? Pharma?) • How will the AHSNs develop an investment and spread platform (Investment Board?) • What KPIs will be used to satisfy all the members and external stakeholders?

  7. Developing the EoI and Application • Track record of partnership working and proposed processes for rapid adoption of innovation across the network. • Demonstration of progress against six high impact innovations listed in ‘Innovation Health and Wealth’. • Governance and leadership model for the proposed AHSN. • Draft 5 year business plan for the proposed AHSN.
