  5. BEFORE CLASS BEGINS ROUTINE Does the teacher have an established routine? Turn in homework at a set place Homework written on the board Established class expectations Be in your seat at the sound of the bell so your learning can begin.

  6. TEACHER’S PRESENTATION STYLE Become familiar with how your teacher introduces the lesson Listen for introductions, key points, summarizations, important announcements Copy what teacher writes on the board in your notes Star (*) when certain points are emphasized or repeated

BEFORE BEGINNING NOTETAKING • Become familiar with the speaker’s style • For Example: pauses, repeating points, uses visual aids,key words like, “comparing, summarizing, of importance…” • Keep up with what teacher is saying • Write only key words, use abbreviations, new vocabulary, citing examples • Review notes after class • Fill in details for clarity, write down questions in a different color, write a summary of your notes in another color
