Defining “Citizenship” • The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines “Citizenship” as: • The status of being a citizen • (being in a community) • Membership in a community (as a college) • The quality of an individual’s response to membership in a community
Identifying “Good Citizenship” Being a citizen (entitled to rights and privileges) Being in a community, e.g., a university Maintaining qualifications for membership in that community Responding and behaving positively to meet standards of conduct for that community. • Ensuring that all citizens maintain their rights and privileges • Fulfilling well and positively the roles and responsibilities of being a citizen
