Perspective Drawing Art Mr. Hobbs
What is Perspective? • Perspective is a way that artists can make a painting or drawing seem to have distance and depth. • How does the artist use perspective in this picture? • Although the image is flat, the artist makes things appear closer or farther away by changing the size and shape of these buildings.
As objects become more distant they appear smaller • Look at this railway track. What do you notice? • The tracks appear to meet at a distant point, the vanishing point. This point lies on a line, called the horizon at the level of the viewer's eye.
Lines of Perspective • Can you find one of the vanishing points in this painting? • Everything seems to get smaller as it approaches the vanishing point to make it seem farther away.
