HISTORY • Guccio Gucci was born in Florence in 1881 and founded the house of Gucci. His inspiration for his brand’s luggage came from his experience in 1897 as a porter in the Savoy Hotel, London. Gucci started out with leather goods such as bags and sold them to horsemen. Later on, he expanded into the luxury bag industry. • In 1921 he opened his first store in Florence and in 1938, his second in Rome. • From 1947 to 1948, the iconic bamboo handled bag was introduced and in the 1950s, his trade mark reds stripe was introduced. • Guccio Gucci passed away in 1953 at the age of 72, however his legacy continued with Gucci expanding internationally into Asia, Paris and London
After Tom Ford’s instatement into Gucci, the brand began to be restored in the 1960s when stars such as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn who made the brand ‘chic’. At the time, Gucci goods were considered to be a statement. • Until now, Gucci is the most expensive brand in the world for consumer goods, having around 270 stores around the world • Today, Gucci is run by Marco Bizzarri (CEO) with Alessandro Michele as Creative Director.

WOMEN THE DRESS Show on the Fall Winter 2017 runway this long sleeve grown is composed of a number of different Gucci prints in a patchwork design. Jeweled bottoms, puff sleeves, and an oversize bow along the neckline speak to the renaissance inspiration seen throughout of Gucci’s collection.
THE JACKET A wool jacket with a sequin embroidered car head appliqué on the back. The embroidered “ Bidden-den Road” ribbon is inspired by the name of the road in Kent that leads to Sissinghurst Castle and one of Alessandro Michele’s favorite gardens, from which he draws inspiration. The “Anger Forest” appliqué references a mythical forest inspired by animals from the world of Gucci.

Tom Ford • American designers he was hired from 1990 and became the head of design in 1992 and creative director in 1994 • He was inspired by disco-era glamour which involves silk shirts and metallic patent boots
