  2. The Physical Activity Pyramid • Physical Activity is any type of body movements that releases energy. • The Physical Activity Pyramid provides different types and amounts of healthy exercise.

  3. The Physical Activity Pyramid • The Pyramid presents four levels of physical activity • Level 1: Lifestyle activities • Level 2: Active aerobics and Sports and recreational activities • Level 3: Flexibility exercises and Strength/muscular development exercises • Level 4: Rest and inactivity

  4. Level 1: Lifestyle Activities • Lifestyle activities include activities that people do daily • Walking to school • Climbing stairs • Raking leaves • Doing household chores.

  5. Level 2: Active Aerobics • Active Aerobics include activities such as: • Walking • Jogging • Biking • Swimming • Hiking

  6. Level 2: Sports and recreational activities • Sports and recreational activities include: • Football • Soccer • Basketball • Canoeing • Water skiing

  7. Level 3: Flexibility exercises • Flexibility exercises include activities that help increase coordination, improve balance, and reduce risk of injury. • Stretch • Kicking • Martial Arts

  8. Level 3: Strength/muscular development exercises • Muscular endurance exercises include: • Resistance Training (not recommended for youngest children)

  9. Level 4: Rest & Inactivity • This level includes sedentary activities such as: • Watching television • Playing computer games • Reading • Sleeping

  10. Why is involving in physical activities important to your health? • Help build your strength and muscles. • Reduce your body fat. • Decrease risks of diseases such as obesity and heart attacks. • Reduce stress. • Make you feel good about yourself. • Stay fit and have a good shape.
