The Early Roman Empire 43 B.C- ___________ -Antony, Lepidus and Octavian -Lepidus retires -Antony falls in love with Cleopatra VII and they plan to take over the Republic -Octavian defeats them at the battle of Actium, they flee, he chases and they kill themselves
Octavian * Ends civil wars and ends the Republic * Lays the foundation for the Roman Empire • He is balancing the ideas of becoming a dictator for life and forming a more representative type of government • He gave some power to the Senate, but made himself the imperator, or “commander and chief” it came to mean emperor • Took the name Augustus-“the revered or majestic one”
Tiberius • 14-37 A.D. • Great military leader, kept economy stable.
Caligula • 37AD-41AD • Abolished sales tax, had people who were banished come back, increased Court power
