Statistics • 17% of our students are identified as ESE (state and national averages are 10-12%) • Only 30% of our ESE students graduate with a standard diploma (State’s expectation exceeds 40%) • Approx. 99% of our ESE students take FCAT and should be working on regular standards (federal mandate)

Access Points Significant cognitive impairment Support Facilitation ESE course codes for students considered “significantly cognitively impaired” Students who function at the moderate to profound level of disability (previously defined as TMH, PMH) – no more than 1% of our total population of students (alternate assessment students) A type of inclusion in which the ESE teacher serves the student in the gen ed classroom, usually under the general education course number Important Definitions
CERTIFICATION/HIGHLY QUALIFIED REQUIREMENTS FOR DIFFERENT SCHEDULING METHODS USED FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES 2 COURSE CODES: ESE-Access point students only (most significantly cognitively impaired students) Basic-All other elementary ESE students must have basic course codes for math and science
What’s next? • Review your teacher certification information • Encourage your teachers of ESE self-contained classes to add Elem Ed certification • Schedule your ESE and lower performing students first • Keep the 1/3 class and 2 grade level guidelines in mind as you plan • Use your staff in a flexible manner – consider ability grouping/departmentalization
