What is a black hole? • An object whose gravitational force is so strong not even light can escape it • Black holes are formed from dead stars Picture from [2]
Black hole formation • A star is composed mainly of hydrogen • The hydrogen atoms combine with each other • This is called fusion • Fusion causes a great amount of outward force. Which counter acts the force of gravity.
Black hole formation cont. • When all of the hydrogen is burn off the outward force stops. • If the star is big enough it will collapse into a black hole.
