COMPOSTING!!! No Waste In Nature
COMPOSTING!!! Worm Bins Hot Boxes
Why Should You Compost? Fact: Last year alone, Catalina Island Camps recycled 20,000 lbs of food waste. They Composted the waste and turned it into new, fresh soil that we used in the garden to plant new trees.
What Items Can You Compost? You can compost anything that comes from a plant: • Produce (fruits and veggies) • Tea Bags • Paper Towels • Juice • Anything other food product that comes from a plant You cannot compost anything that comes from an animal (meat, dairy, etc.)
How Do You Compost? 1st: Save your food waste…Don’t throw it away! 2nd: Chop up your food waste and shred paper products…WHY? 3rd: Dump it into the compost bins 4th: Mix in the food you added for the microbes to eat
Connection to Biology • Learn things about environment • Look at biodiversity • Help things on the island stay alive • Taking out fennel (invasive species) • Everything is related to biology
