Tests and Projects • Study guides for tests will be given in advance and material reviewed before the test • Projects - Rubrics explaining requirements and point distribution will be given out for each project. Students will work on projects both in and out of class. We will begin work on all projects in class. Students will have more than one day to complete projects and due dates will be posted on my Moodle website .
Quizzes • Used to evaluate students’ ongoing understanding of terminology and facts • Quizzes are announced in advance and material reviewed before the quiz • Daily projects count as a quiz grade and are an alternative form of evaluation of basic terminology and facts. Students are provided rubrics at the time that projects are assigned and they are asked to evaluate their own work before they turn it in for a grade.
Homework/Class work • Homework is used to reinforce concepts being taught in class. • Homework is due the day after it is assigned unless otherwise noted. • If a student is ill or there is a family emergency preventing a student from completing an assignment a signed note from the parent can be turned in with the late assignment. • Occasionally I ask students to complete a class work assignment at home that they are unable to complete in class. • All assignments are written on the white board and students are asked to copy these assignment in their agenda at the beginning of class. Assignments are also posted on my Moodle website.
Journals • Students’ work will be stapled or taped in their journals. Periodic journal quizzes will be given to assess student’s completion of journal assignments and warm-ups. • Daily warm-up questions will be answered in the students’ journals. • Students should define vocabulary terms and illustrate or give an example in their glossary folder. Terms, definitions and illustrations are posted on the glossary on my moodle web site. • Class work should be corrected and stapled in the journal notebook. • All assignments should be recorded in the table of contents with the date of the assignment and the page of the notebook that the assignment is stapled on.
Agendas • As part of the daily class procedure students are asked to record assignments in their agendas. • Students should have their agendas with them in every class to record assignments and students will use them as a passport to leave a classroom and travel to another destination in the school.
Other • Students will complete a number of web quests using my moodle website in the computer lab • We will also be reading selections of non-fiction books related to social studies as well as articles from magazines related to their unit of study.
