Mission Statement To develop recommendations for a comprehensive, sustainable, national adult immunization program that will lead to vaccine preventable disease reduction by improving adult immunization coverage levels

Recent and Ongoing Studies • University of Michigan surveys • Primary care physicians’ perspectives on stocking vaccines for adults 19-64 years • Many adult primary care physicians do not stock recommended adult vaccines • No single dominant reason for not stocking • Practice costs and reimbursements for vaccines for adults 19-64 years • Of 527 practices invited, only 13 provided detailed data
Ongoing Study • SDI study to examine payment and reimbursement practices for immunization providers using claims remit data • Scope of work • Methods and preliminary results
Summary • Review of literature identified numerous existing recommendations for improving adult immunization • The CDC draft plan contains many essential elements of a comprehensive adult immunization program • Additional information will be available when ongoing studies are finalized
Process for Developing Recommendations • Monthly conference calls • Review and discuss existing recommendations to identify • barriers to recommendations • actions that are needed to address barriers • who should take responsibility for actions • the time period in which actions should occur
