Recommendation 1: • Explicitly refer to University Policy • Emphasize alignment with FIU Policy • Authority • Recourse
Recommendation 1 The School of Computing and Information Sciences has formulated these policies as an extension of existing University policy. Recommendation 2 • Reworded “Conduct and Harassment”: Users engaging in improper or disruptive behavior including yelling, swearing and using of inappropriate language will be asked to leave the labs. Additionally, the display of offensive material on websites or computer wallpaper is prohibited. “Obscene, racist, sexist, harassing, or threatening language or actions violate ethical and University standards, and are subject to the University guidelines governing discrimination.” 11.0.E http://www.fiu.edu/provost/polman/sec11web.htm

Recommendation 3 • Reworded “Account Sharing”: Accounts in the CIS environment are assigned to individuals for the purposes of completing coursework, instruction or support of CIS. The sharing of CIS computer accounts is prohibited. Further it is your responsibility not to share your account or your password with any other student. In keeping with University policy, CIS reserves the right to revoke account access if account use is not consistent with the guidelines stated in this document.
Recommendation 4 • Equipment and Network Reliability • Currently no statement about reliability • Systems periodically fail • Set appropriate expectations • Provide contingency solutions in advance
Recommendation 4 • Additional policy inclusion: “Reliability” Please be aware that from time to time equipment fails. Backups are taken nightly of network shares and retained for two weeks however, this service may not suffice in the event of a catastrophic failure. Students are responsible to use the CD-R drives provided to perform personal periodic backups of their critical data and information from the network share.
