Rule 1: Placement if a quote The parentheses are placed at the end of a sentence, between the last word and the period. If you are quoting material directly, the parentheses should go between the closing quotation mark and the period: “The chicken came before the egg” (Calabretta 12).

  1. Rule 1: Placement if a quote The parentheses are placed at the end of a sentence, between the last word and the period. If you are quoting material directly, the parentheses should go between the closing quotation mark and the period: “The chicken came before the egg” (Calabretta 12).

  2. Rule 2: Placement if you paraphrase The parentheses are placed at the end of a sentence, between the last word and the period. : The chicken came before the egg (Calabretta 12).

  3. Rule 3 IF it is on your works cited page, there must be at least one reference to that source in the text of your paper

  4. Rule 4 If you cite a work in the text of your paper, it MUST be in your works cited page

  5. A parenthetical reference to a Book might look like this: ...the end of your sentence (Calabretta 25). Don’t forget the page number

  6. A parenthetical reference to a Database might look like this: . . . end of the sentence (“Adolecent Drivers”). OR . . .end of sentence (Calabretta). No Author Author

  7. A parenthetical reference to a Website might look like this: . . . end of the sentence (“Title of Webpage”). OR . . .end of sentence (Calabretta). No Author Author
