  1. Galatians Chapter Five Galatians 5:17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

  2. The mandates given regarding the Filling of the Holy Spirit are both absolute and relative: ABSOLUTE: Confess or admit your sins and by faith be filled with the Spirit RELATIVE: Walk in the Spirit, remain in the Spirit

  3. The two Mandates Provide two Challenges: CHALLENGE #1 Are you going to admit, acknowledge, confess any known sin as a prerequisite to being to seeing the need to be filled with the Holy Spirit by faith? CHALLENGE #2 Are you going to stay F/HS and therefore have a Christian walk that is in the Spirit?

  4. SPIRITUALITY: 1. Spirituality is the post salvation work of God the Holy Spirit in ministry to the believer 2. Spirituality (F/HS) is commanded for every believer 3. More than any other writer, John expressed spirituality as an absolute: Fellowship, light, power

  5. SPIRITUALITY continued: 4. Paul wrote of spirituality as the experience of the Christ Centered Life: staying in fellowship, staying in the light, walking in the Spirit 5. Thus, John, in I John 1:9 John removes the barrier to fellowship which is denied sin. 6. And in I John 2:1-2 we are recall by faith what does get back in fellowship (The Cross of Christ)

  6. I John 1:9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 2:1-2My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

  7. Walk as a Christian: 1. Walking is a learned, requires balance, is automatic, has momentum 2. Walking in the CCL also involves learning, balance, automation, and momentum 3. Man cannot walk without balance factor the inner ear. The Christian cannot walk in the Spirit without balance from the soul 4. The walking in the Spirit is a learned activity The young believer has to concentrate on every move, every step he takes and may even have to lean on other who are more mature for support. When he falls, he gets up again

  8. Walk as a Christian continued: 5. Just as walking becomes an automatic process, our walk in the Spirit becomes automatic 6. In walking every step is a step of faith 7. Every step get you to where you are going, this is the momentum of walking Momentum in the Christian life is that which allows for constant recovery from loss of balance. If you stop in mid-stride and you fall, instead you forge ahead

  9. Romans 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. Romans 12:2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

  10. Sixteen works of the Flesh, the OSN Immorality Impurity Sensuality Idolatry Sorcery Enmities Strife Jealousy Outbursts of anger Disputes Dissensions Factions Envying Drunkenness Carousing And things like these

  11. Fruit of the Spirit: 1. The fruit (singular) of the Holy Spirit is the character of Christ Romans 13:14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof 2. Fruit looks at production. All nine work together in the balanced CCL. They are expressed toward God, self, others 3. The growth of fruit comes from nourishment in the vine. As a Christian, our strength and spiritual health comes from spiritual nourishment in Christ

  12. Fruit of the Spirit continued: 4. The singular use of the word fruit looks at the fact that these are concurrently expressed in the life of the believer 5. The Spirit produces a fruit that encompasses attitude and action towards self, others, and God 6. How does the Holy Spirit produce this fruit? John 14:12, 15-17, and 26 John 15:20 and 26 John 16:1-2, 7, and 13-14

  13. Fruit of the Spirit continued: 7. It is the Holy Spirit then who produces the Fruit of the Spirit, which is the character of Christ, in us This is accomplished through the Spirit's ministry in teaching us and using God’s truth in our souls and in our lives 8. God the Holy Spirit is the power of the CCL I Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently
