IB Diploma Porgramat AEHS • Albert Einstein’s IB Program is an open-access IB program- there is no entrance exam. • IB Academy: An AEHS, school-based program recognizing a student’s successful completion of three IB courses & exams. • IB Diploma Program (DP): A comprehensive, nationally and internationally-recognized program of study with a set of core requirements. The IB Diploma is seen by colleges as the “gold standard” college preparatory program.

IB Diploma Requirements:Core Expectations • Theory of knowledge (TOK) class: a course where students reflect on our journey to create, analyze and share knowledge • Extended Essay: an independent research paper on a topic of student choice • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): students complete, reflect & create a portfolio for creative, activity and service experiences

Renaissance Academy • The Renaissance Academy • Emphasizes the development of mathematical, reading, writing, and public speaking skills and their application in the arts and sciences • Students will master the skills, facts, and theories of academics necessary for college and post graduate success while developing critical thinking skills as they explore the ethical, interpretive, and interpersonal facets of knowledge, history and the arts. • To receive a Renaissance Academy certificate, students must take a minimum of 3 advanced placement course

VAPA at a Glance • Over 520 students currently enrolled in the VAPA academy • VAPA Students complete a minimum of 3 credits in the arts classes plus a senior capstone project • Students choose to either follow one pathway, or to take multiple art forms in order to fulfill the academy requirement

Who should take an honors-level course? • Students who demonstrate a passion within a discipline • Students willing to commit to an increased academic load and a more rigorous course of study • Students who have excelled in on-level classes • Students who have completed course prerequisites • Students who have been recommended by teacher or counselor

28. Course Registration • Select your courses online through MyMCPS Scheduler. • 9th graders have met with counselors to discuss course selection. • Please make sure to submit your Registration Card to the Counseling Department by the due date: Friday, February 15, 2019

29. Schedule Change Policy • The master schedule is developed by the number of course selections identified by students during this registration process. • School administrators make decisions regarding the number of sections per department based on students’ course selections.

30. Schedule Change Policy • Schedule changes will ONLY be made for the following reasons: • Completion of a summer school course • Incomplete schedule (missing a class) • Failure of prerequisite course • Master schedule conflict Requests for specific teachers will NOT be honored!
