WHERE IS RESILIENCE CAMP LOCATED ? IN MALAYSIA’S PREMIER NATIONAL PARK - TAMAN NEGARA , STATE OF PAHANG SINGAPORE
TAMAN NEGARA , PAHANG SAFE YET CHALLENGING
SAFE • Dedicated Eco-Tourism area since 1938. • Means that there is experienced and competent management of • the park. (Proper enforcement – life jackets for water activities) • Trained and experienced guides, tour agencies and forest • enforcement agencies on hand to assist. • Proper marking , layout of areas for safe passage of tourists • Temasek Secondary has conducted 3 successful camps in the • same area since 2005. • School Management Team and teachers are experienced in • camp operations in that area.
CHALLENGING • Aim is to provide a new environment out of the classroom to provide the students opportunities to learn about Self , Others and making Decisions that affect both. • While the new environment is safe, it presents an opportunity to allow teachers and guides to customise learning scenarios ( eg setting up camp, outdoor adventure ) • This will achieve desired outcomes ( eg learning how to manage group demands in planning a strategy to win a game / leading and delegating responsibilities within one’s group) which presents • Learning points for the students to gain awareness of
WHY IS THE CAMP SCHEDULED EARLY IN THE YEAR ? • Scheduled on 19 JAN TO 23 JAN 2009. • Scheduled early in the year to avoid clashes with zonal and • national sports competitions / Singapore Youth Festival 2009 • training and preparations and the Asian Games in mid 2009. • - Also, the camp will allow our Sec 3 students to mature and • be more disciplined so that they can better focus on academic • programs after the camp. • Having the camp on the 3rd week will also allow the organizing • committee to have time to complete the necessary administration • and document checks. The school will also send a team of • teachers to Pahang in the 1st week to check that the safety • and planning requirements are in place before the arrival of the • Students.

CAMP RESILIENCE 2009 YOUTH OLYMPICS 2010 SHARE FOCUS ON CORE VALUES • EXCELLENCE • how to give the best of oneself, taking part and progressing • according to set objectives. • FRIENDSHIP • – understanding and learning from each other in spite of • differences. • RESPECT • – Promoting fair play(integrity), knowing one’s limits(safety of self and others), taking care of own health and environment(self responsibility, awareness and respect for other’s cultures and habitats).
HIGHER FASTER STRONGER • CAMP GROUPINGS • 3 Groups ( Build up confidence, endurance , adaptability) • Choice of groups based on activity preferences • (subject to vacancies. Students given option to select 2 preferred choice) • Each Group has 1 challenge activity and 1 reward activity • Challenge activity – provide scenario based learning • Reward activity – inject element of motivation and fun
HIGHER • Each Group has 1 challenge activity and 1 reward activity • Challenge activity – Abseiling / Rock Climbing / Caving / Trekking • Reward activity – 4 x 4 ride and waterfall experience
FASTER • Each Group has 1 challenge activity and 1 reward activity • Challenge activity – Cycling 52km • Reward activity – Canopy walk / Rapids Rafting
STRONGER • CAMP GROUPINGS • Each Group has 1 challenge activity and 1 reward activity • Challenge activity – Jungle Survival & Trekking • Reward activity – Flying fox , rapids rafting
FINANCE COST : $345 per student CO-PAYMENT BY STUDENT : $276 ( 80% ) ( $138 – Edusave ) ( $138 - Paid directly by student ) CO – PAYMENT BY SCHOOL : $69 ( 20% ) in line with MOE Financial Rule Covers – 5 days of Food / Lodging / Equipment / Guides / Transport / Activities / Comprehensive insurance (inclusive of emergency airlift) Financial assistance will be provided to those students who require it and meet the financial assistance criteria. No child will be deprived of an opportunity to attend the camp due to financial issues.

DATES / TIME DURATION : 5 days 4 nights PERIOD : 19 JANUARY – 23 JANUARY 2009 REGISTRATION AT SCHOOL: 6.30AM ( MONDAY 19JANUARY 2009 ) DEPARTURE TO SINGAPORE : 2.00AM ( FRIDAY 23 JANUARY 2009) ARRIVAL IN SINGAPORE AT TANJONG PAGAR RAILWAY STATION : 11.30AM (approx ) (FRIDAY 23 JANUARY 2009) Students will be dismissed from train station. However, 3 buses will be available to bring students back to school. First come first served basis.
