Pathway to Promise • What is it? • A private scholarship awarded to someone who lives in New Haven and attends a state 2-4 year college or university in Connecticut. • What are the 5 requirements? • Residency- Must be a New Haven resident and attend a New Haven public school or approved public charter school in the City of New Haven. • Civic Behavior - Have a positive disciplinary record. • Community Service- Complete the community service requirement of 40 hrs. throughout high school (grades 9-12) 10 hrs./yr. • Attendance – Attend school 90% or better during high school • Grades -Receive a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better upon graduation from high school. • Maintain a 2.5 GPA during the years enrolled in College.   • Due November 30th of your Freshmen Year • Where? • Counselor’s office • Online @ www.newhavenpromise.org • New Haven Promise office • 203-776-6473

The process is not first come first serve. It is a lottery. • Lottery takes place Wednesday April 9, 2014. • List four different choices in order of your preference. You are not required to make more than one choice. • Sibling Preference- sibling must reside in the same household. • You could be put on a waiting list – up until the end of October.

22. Educational Center for the Arts (ECA) • Afternoon arts program. • Honors level curriculum in the arts under the tutelage of practicing professional artists. • Academics taken at another school • You will be called to audition after you apply. • Recommendations from your art teacher in the discipline you are applying to and School Counselor.

23. Private/Parochial Schools • Parent or student needs to obtain the application. • Shadowing is set up by parents with the school. • Be aware of testing dates and financial aid deadlines. • Attend the open house • Teachers and counselors must have 10 days to process recommendations and record releases

24. Some things to think about! • Most schools will let students shadow for the day. Parents must call the school of interest to set up a shadow day. It will be an excused absence. • At least two open houses will be scheduled for each school- Go visit the school! • Attend the High School Fair- Choose your top 3 schools to target • Talk to the principal and teachers - Ask questions! • Find out what school fits you best. • Does that school have what I’m interested in? Do I feel comfortable? Will it prepare me for college and beyond? • Take the most challenging courses! • Get involved in extracurricular activities!
