Daily Class Schedule: • 8:30 Words Their Way (Language Enrichment) • 9:00 Spiral Review & Test Prep (Math) • 9:45 SPECIALS (PE/Music/Library) TRRFCC Classroom Meetings on Day 6 • 10:20 Bathroom Break & Working Snack Time • 10:30 Math Acceleration Centers • 11:20 Recess & Lunch • 12:05 Common Core (Social Studies & Science) • 1:30 Literacy Workshop (Reading & Writing Centers) • 2:50 C.A.P. the Day/Agenda

5th-6th Grade Mathematics… • Number Sense & Operations • Multiplication & Division (1-2 digit) • Fractions (+/-, equivalency, reducing) • Problem Solving (all operations) • Patterns (variables, input/output) • Data Analysis & Probability (proportion, statistics, graphs, charts) • Measurement (geometric, time, capacity & distance) • Geometry (2-3D shapes, points, 4-quadrants)
How C.A.T.S. do their Math… Students are encouraged to make connections between math concepts studied and real-world applications. Math Acceleration Projects (MAPs) will be implemented this year to help differentiate instruction. Class work becomes homework when not finished in class 1st) Mathematical concepts are introduced using hands-on materials 2nd ) Students then use words and pictures to represent and solve problems 3rd ) Finally, students will learn to develop several algorithms. Students engage the math through: • whole group instruction • small group cooperation • individual acceleration
Literacy Curriculum... New & Improved!! CUSD Homework Policy… Class assignments and homework are ultimately your child’s responsibility. Missing assignments, not practicing math facts or reading at night can negatively impact students’ performance. Students should spend no more than 20-30 minutes on homework each night, be in bed at a decent time, and rest for the next day. • Homework consists of practicing Math Facts, nightly reading & recording # pages read in the Reading Log. (~100 pages/week) • Work not completed in class will be finished during recess or in Friday study hall. Quarterly book projects completed at home. • If you and your child wish to work on any concepts further, please visit our classroom website for more on-line resources & activities.
Communications… The following will be sent in the Green Go-Home Folder every Day 6: • S.T.O.R.M. Report & Goal Setting • Academic Progress Report & Goal Setting (when there are enough grades entered)
