Project #62 Scott Matthews ECE 445 Website Analysisand Design
Introduction • Site has been added onto repeatedly over the years by many different people with different goals • Redesign will improve interface for easier use for students and instructors • Data storage security can be greatly improved
Preserving Functionality • New website design must be capable of the same operations as the current one • New design must contain all relevant course data from old design • Must have all features (e.g. document uploading) of the old design
Documentation of Features • Functions specified with increasing order of clarity • Exact methods for current website design are laid out for each operation
Documentation of Information • All uploaded files and important information is listed for each page • Site navigation included to trace general flow of website • Information is listed more broadly to allow for possible future adjustments
Security Changes • Current files may be accessed by anyone who possesses the data path for the file • Switching to a database stored on a separate server would eliminate this issue
Navigation Changes • Removal/repurposing of unused pages (Webcam) • Merging of desolate pages (Web, Written) • Removal of smaller sidebar pages (External Project Mentors into Home) • Addition of scrolling banner for sponsor information
Web Board Changes • Thread reply email notification • Switch from device-based accessed thread marking to user-based thread marking • Special marking for threads which have been accessed but have had new posts added • Allow users to edit web board posts
Conclusion • We want to preserve the useful aspects of the current ECE 445 website’s design • To achieve the same functionality, specifications must be very detailed • Changes can be made in many areas to make the website more intuitive and less cluttered
