Direct vs. Indirect • Direct quotes are word-for-word from your research • Must have quotation marks While there are certainly similarities in their approach to the stage, Freddy Mercury “commanded the attention of the audience by way of playful engagement as well as theatricality” (Klein). • Indirect quotes are not word-for-word, but still include specific details from a piece of research • No quotation marks While there are certainly similarities in their approach to the stage, Freddy Mercury held the attention of fans through his theatrics and the way in which he engaged with the fans by encouraging them to sing along to their favorite Queen songs (Klen).

Parenthetical Citations-with author- The quote: The grammar of MSA is fairly complex and “not all native speakers get the hang of it; however, the grammar in the Arabic language is somewhat simpler” (Hibma).
