Routines & Structure • May sound a little boring – but this is for your sanity! • Routines are the backbone of daily classroom life. • They facilitate teaching and learning. • They save VALUABLE classroom time. • Efficient routines make it easier for students to learn and achieve more. • Consistently follow your procedures and model correctness. • When introducing activities and new classroom tools – explain the routine that goes with them.

  13. Consistency is KEY. • Students learn better in a consistent environment. • They like knowing what they can expect. • They thrive with routine and consistency when it comes to classroom management and expectations. (Not teaching methods!) • Students excel when they know what to expect. • Students do not like surprises (when it comes to classroom management routines.) • Students do not do well in a classroom that is disorganized. • Students do better in a classroom that has a consistent environment – they are more relaxed and comfortable. • Consistency can be hard for the teacher to execute ALL the time – but it is necessary. • If you feel you struggle with this… find someone who excels and observe them several times to start developing your method of consistency.
