MALAMULELE MISSION TRIP 5 -6 April 2013
The Nobela Family From Left to Right Uncle Maluma(Petunia’s Uncle) ; Kenneth ; Ps Jerry, Anella, Nomosonde, Petunia
History – Nobela Family • Jerry and Petunia grew up in Soweto • Jerry attended bible college with Dr Doug • Jerry and Petunia got married in the late 80’s • Ps Jerry had a real heart for missions, so He and Petunia moved to Malamulele shortly after getting married • Petunia completed her nursing training in Malamulele
20 Years On • They run a church still in Malamulele • They have been able to plant 4 satellite churches in the area • They also run 2 bible schools: • Malamulele • They do pastoral training in Kwazulu Natal • Ps Jerry has just received his Masters Degree in Theology and is currently submitting his Doctoral thesis
Some Background Information • Weltevreden Chapel has been supporting this missionary couple for over 20 years • Dr Doug Forsythe and Dr Gordon Gregory have been going to visit the church over the years, to support this mission • We as a church haven’t been in contact with Ps Jerry Nobela for a couple of years now
OBJECTIVE OF THE TRIP • Re-establish and develop our relationship with Ps Jerry and his family • Acquaint ourselves with the church we were supporting • Access the needs of church, so that we could come back and present it to the church, with the viewpoint of better assisting the church moving forward
OUR SCHEDULE FOR THE TRIP Friday: • Left on the Friday mid morning • Arrived in Malamulele around 6:30pm • Had dinner at Ps Jerry’s home with some pastoral and senior members of the congregation • Had a time of introducing each other and getting acquainted
OUR SCHEDULE FOR THE TRIP (continued) Saturday: • Chatted with Ps Jerry about the church, the satellite churches, the bible colleges and his studies • Visited the main church • Visited the bible college • Went back to the main church to attend Awana • Visited one of the satellite churches • Had late afternoon tea at the church treasurers house • Had dinner with Ps Jerry and his family at his home
OUR SCHEDULE FOR THE TRIP (continued) Sunday • Attended the church service at the main church • Had lunch with the Ps Jerry and his family and certain members of the congregation at his home • Left to head back to JHB around 1pm • Got home after 8:30pm
Our Perceptions • They are an established church with a definite missions focus:- • They put us up in a lodge which the congregation paid for • They are wanting to start a missions committee • They have great potential for growth in their ministry:- • Reaching more people for Christ • Making use of bible college facilities to reach people
