  2. 802.11 Maintenance Guidelines • Two parallel activities keep 802.11 up to date: • TGm -- Maintenance Task Group • Functional and technical amendments are output • Technical corrections and changes • Generally not editorial changes • Amendments only • PAR owned by TGm • WG Activity led by WG editor • Document publication status • Drive editions, revisions, and reaffirmations • Editorial changes (technical oversights on revisions also) • Not functional changes • Full documents only (not amendments) • Revision PAR (when needed) owned by WG Terry Cole, AMD

Activities of WG Editor • Maintain Information (as WG documents): • List of potential editorial errata and proposed editorial changes Coordinate with TGm (refer technical issues to them) • List of current editorial work in all TGs (help coordinate overlaps) Coordinate with all TG chairs & editor (identify editing issues) • Documents for publication: • Amendment publication status • Editions as each new amendment is approved by REVCOM • Revisions/ Reaffirmations as periodically needed • ISO drafts as needed • electronic attachment of 802.11 (PICS form, SDL, MIB) • Coordinate balloting and publishing processes for: • Reaffirmations and revision (including PAR generation) • ISO approval process • Motions as needed in WG Terry Cole, AMD

Documents (1) • Publication Status • No approved documents pending publication • Will track 802.11-1999 (2003 edition) when approved by REVCOM • Expect availability on IEEE web wite within 30 days • Please purchase your copy directly from IEEE bookstore on web • Supports funding of IEEE-SA, our standardization parent! • IEEE staff is aware that we are nearing approval state of • 802.11f Recommended Practice • 802.11h and 802.11g Amendments to 802.11-1999 (2003 edition) • Staff has some concerns • that these documents are not in Frame. • that diagrams are not separate files in EPS (vector), TIFF (bitmap), or WMF (vector) • All 802.11 editors have met and are working with staff to resolve Terry Cole, AMD

Documents (2) • Editions • Publication of amendments generally has higher priority than editions (good for Get802™ and supported by SEC agreement) • 802.11g and 802.11h will not likely require editions • Reaffirmations / Revisions • Approval of 802.11i and 802.11e and 802.11m may be a good trigger point for a revision (if revision warranted by errata) containing all approved amendments • Revision PAR request must be made well in advance Terry Cole, AMD

Documents (3) • ISO drafts • ISO version of 802.11d • Will be included for first time in ISO documentation if they approve 802.11-1999 (2003 edition) • ISO version of 802.11-1999 (2003 edition) • Staff will create the ISO document after ISO approves it; this is the standard work method for the “fast track” approval process of ISO • Electronic attachments • SDL and MIB updated for 802.11-1999 (2003 edition) • A new electronic PICS form is in planning stages Terry Cole, AMD

Balloting Processes • Reaffirmation • 801.11-1999 (2003 Edition) on REVCOM agenda for next week • Revision • Considering a revision PAR request as 802.11e and 802.11i near completion to roll-up new amendments • ISO drafts • ISO version of 802.11-1999 (2003 edition) • Will be the first inclusion of 802.11d in ISO document Terry Cole, AMD

  9. Motions (1) Move that the WG accept the resolutions as found in doc 03-117r1 and support approval of the recirculated document at the March REVCOM meeting. By taking this action, the WG affirms that it believes the document is useful in its current form and contains no significant obsolete or erroneous information. Terry Cole, AMD

  10. Motions (2) • Move to submit 802.11-1999 (2003 edition) to ISO/IEC for Fast Track approval through the UK national body. Robin Tasker has volunteered to make the submission, and Terry Cole will be the project editor. Terry Cole, AMD
