Strategic Overview Historical milestones • 2007 – Establishment of a UN funding mechanism under UNMIN to complement government’s Nepal Peace Trust Fund • 2008 – First Nepal PBF Priority Plan: $10 m funding approved • 2009 – Transfer of leadership from SRSG to the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Reform of the UNPFN: i.) Focus on the peace and development nexus; ii.) Advance the UN reform agenda; iii.) Strategic Overview Key facts • To date, the UNPFN had allocated over USD 44.4 million through 26 projects (closed / ongoing / pipeline) implemented by 12 PUNOs • Contributions of USD 18 million from the UN Peacebuilding Fund • Contributions of USD 26.5 million from the Governments of Canada, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom • Harnessed the different types of UN expertise required for peace-building: from 4 PUNOs in 2007 to 12 PUNOs in 2010 • Increased collaboration and joint programming among UN agencies: from 1 joint project in 2007 to 7 in 2011 UN Peace Fund for Nepal http://mptf.undp.org/factsheet/fund/npf00
