The Mighty Angel “ . . . And His feet as pillars of fire . . .” Rev. 10:1 “ . . . and His feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace.” Rev. 1:15
“And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when He had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices,I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, andwrite them not.” Revelation 10:3, 4
“God thundereth marvellously with His voice; great things doeth He, which we cannot comprehend.” Job 37:5 “The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered His voice.” 2 Samuel 22:14 “Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to Him.” John 12:28, 29
The Mighty Angel “And He had in His hand a little book open . . .” vs. 2 What “book”? Why was it “open”?
The “2300 day” vision was closed or sealed for“many days” “And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore SHUT thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.” Daniel 8:26
The “2300 day” vision was closed or sealed for“many days” “But thou, Daniel, SHUT UP the words, and SEAL the book, even to the time of the end . . .” Daniel 12:4
The “2300 day” vision was closed or sealed for“many days” “And he [the angel] said, ‘Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are CLOSED UP and SEALED till the time of the end.’” Daniel 12:9
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ . . .vision of the evening the morning” “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Dan. 8:14 “ and evening the morning were the first day.” Genesis 1:5
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ . . .Shut up . . . for many days” “ . . .seal the book, even to the time of the end.” Dan. 12:4 “ . . .for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.” Dan. 12:9 Question: When is the “time of the end”?
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “The prophetic expression ‘the time of the end’ is not the end of time. It refers to the end of the 1260-year period of papal supremacy which lasted from A.D. 538 to 1798. And, true to the prediction,. . .
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ . . . when the prophetic period of 1260 years terminated, students of Bible prophecy in many lands began simultaneously, and without any collusion, to concentrate on the study of the 2300 day prophecy in Daniel 8 and 9.” see: L.E. Froom, Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers vol. 3, pp. 263-277
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy • The prophecies of Daniel chapters 8 and 9 concern two periods of time: • • the 70 weeks (Dan. 9:24 – 27) • • the 2300 days (Dan. 8:14, 26) Jewish and other Bible scholars since before the time of Christ were interpreting the 70 week prophecy.
Over a period of 79 years there were three different decrees issued by Persian kings • 536 B.C. – Cyrus • 519 B.C. – Darius • 457 B.C. – Artaxerxes (Ahasuerus)
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.” Ezra 6:14
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for Himself . . .” Daniel 9:25, 26
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ ’Tis therefore a part of this prophecy, that it should not be understood before the last age of the world; and therefore it makes for the credit of the prophecy, that it is not yet understood. But . . .
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ . . . if the last age, the age of opening these things, be now approaching, as by the great successes of the late interpreters it seems to be, we have more encouragement than ever to look into these things.” Sir Isaac Newton, 1733
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ There was now a deepening conviction that those expositors who, for more than 100 years, had pointed to France as the scene of the momentous events to occur about the end of the 18th century, . . .
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “. . . and which would have disastrous effects upon Catholicism, had evidently had substantial prophetic ground for their expectations.” L.E. Froom,Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, p. 264
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy Prophetic study groups and conferences were held in England, Scotland, Ireland, and France. British essayist and historian Thomas B. Macaulay stated: “Many Christians believe that the Messiah will shortly establish. . .
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ . . . a kingdomon the earth, and reign visibly over all its inhabitants . . . It is preached from pulpits, both of the Scottish and of the English church. Noblemen and members of parlia-ment have written in defense of it.” Quoted in L.E. Froom, p. 265
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “About 1812 the re-study of prophecy began to take on more definite shape. Lacunza’s book had just been published in Spanish. In 1813 William Cunninghame’s Dissertations on the Seals and Trumpets was issued, . . .”
Keys to Understandingthe Prophecy “ . . . dating the 1260 years from the Code of Justinian to the French Revolution and the Code of Napoleon, which superseded the previous code.” see: L.E. Froom, Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers vol. 3, p. 265
“Based on their conclusions on the prophecies of the 2300 days, hundreds of preachers in Europe, America, and many other lands predicted the literal return of Christ in or about the year 1844. . . .
“ . . . Among these preachers were many leaders of the Congregationalists, Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, etc. It was a heart-stirring message and appealed to the most spiritual of the congregations. They eagerly devoured the message.” Roy Allan Anderson,Unfolding the Revelation, p. 102
Bitter-Sweet Message “And He said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the Angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.” Revelation 10:9, 10
Bitter-Sweet Message “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by Thy name, O LORD God of hosts.” Jeremiah 15:16 “Moreover He said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that roll. . . .”
Bitter-Sweet Message “ . . . And He said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. And He said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with My words unto them.” Ezekiel 3:1-4
Bitter-Sweet Message William Miller was an American Baptist who, after his experience in the War of 1812, was challenged by his Deist friends on the validity of Genesis chapter one. Thus Miller began a serious study of the Bible to determine what was truth.
Bitter-Sweet Message Miller became convinced that the 2,300 day period of Daniel 8:14 started in 457 B.C. with the decree to rebuild Jerusalem by Artaxerxes I of Persia. He calculated it to end in 1843 with the second coming of Christ.
Bitter-Sweet Message In 1840 “the voice of the mighty Angel awoke the earth with the message, ‘Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment is come.’ [cf. Rev. 14:6, 7] This was a message from the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the sea and all living creatures. And He swore ‘that there should be time no longer.’”S.N. Haskell, Seer of Patmos, p. 186.
Bitter-Sweet Message “And the Angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up His hand to heaven, and sware by Him that liveth for ever and ever, Who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein that there should be time no longer.” Revelation 10:6
Bitter-Sweet Message Nothing since apostolic days had caused such a great interest in Bible study, except the revival that brought about the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. The thought that Jesus was soon to return to earth to claim His people and establish His eternal kingdom brought inexpressible joy to believers.
