46. Bitter-Sweet Message William Miller was an American Baptist who, after his experience in the War of 1812, was challenged by his Deist friends on the validity of Genesis chapter one. Thus Miller began a serious study of the Bible to determine what was truth.

47. Bitter-Sweet Message Miller became convinced that the 2,300 day period of Daniel 8:14 started in 457 B.C. with the decree to rebuild Jerusalem by Artaxerxes I of Persia. He calculated it to end in 1843 with the second coming of Christ.

The thought that Jesus was soon to return to earth to claim His people and establish His eternal kingdom brought inexpressible joy to believers.
