EuCARD Status: March 2010
Activities of AIT Manufacturing of Cu-Dia using two different alloying elements/coatings using conventional hot pressing technology Thermal cycling tests of materials with 50 vol% (CTE/diffusivity) Mould design for a Cu-Dia tile of 320mmx80mm First tests and assessment of temperature profile using this mold in combination with direct hot pressing Fabrication of a test part with optimised set-up Identification of processing parameters for 60 vol.% diamond using rapid hot pressing (tests on 10 mm samples) Modification of pressing die (10mm samples) due to minimum pressure requirement of Dr. Fritsch press.
Thermal cycling behaviour (50 vol.%) Coefficient of Thermal Expansion Measurement cycle C4 4th cycle 300C Thermal cycling: C1: RT-300°C-RT C2: RT-300°C-RT C3: RT-800°C-RT C4: RT-300°C-RT C5: RT-300°C-RT C6: RT-300°C-RT C7: RT-300°C-RT C8: RT-300°C-RT C9: RT-300°C-RT C10: RT-300°C-RT
Direct heated hot pressing hotpressing: • Heating rate: up to 400 K/min • Max. temperature: 2.400°C • Cycle time: < 1 hour
Plans for next months Modification of pressing die for 320mm x 80 mm to improve the temperature homogenity Continue CTE measurements and thermal diffusivity measurements Prepare a 320 mm x80 mm plate for further thermal, mechanical testing with 60 vol.% of diamond
