Oscar Hammerstein • July 12, 1895-August 23, 1960 • Columbia University • Began as a stage manager, which developed his love for theatre. • Librettist and lyricist
R & H • Began collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein in 1943. • Blended styles of musical comedy (RR) with operetta (OH). • First hit, “Oklahoma.” – Pulitzer Prize winner

R&H Trivia • Numerous awards including Pulitzer Prize, Tonys, Grammys, Oscars, Emmys • Shirley Jones (Carousel, Oklahoma) was the first and only actor to be under contract to R&H • RR’s daughter and grandsons are composers. • OH’s was a pre-law major at Columbia.
