VISION and OPHTHALMOLOGY The Department is active, from many years, in this research field. Retina is the focal point, due to the growing incidence and social impact of macular degenerations on a aging population. Innovative methods are developed in our labs and applied in physiological and clinical studies, to improve knowledge of retinal function and assess new therapeutic approaches. Our focal ERG system is equipped with a special electronics, needed to evaluate extremely low-level responses, as occurs in clinical trials involving patients with advanced AMD An experimental LDF apparatus (Laser Doppler Flowmetry) is under development. Includes multispectral light stimulation to study retinal neurovascular coupling In collaboration with: - Benedetto Falsini, Catholic University, Rome - Eyal Banin, Hadassah Hospital, Jerusalem - Charles Riva, Institute of Research in Ophthalmology, Sion - Vittorio Porciatti, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami 8
