SeaDataNet future • Very short term : Preparation of the next annual report • Activities for the next year • On a longer term : what will be SeaDataNet after SeaDataNet project?
2008-2009 Report (third annual report) • Due on May, 15. • Prefilled forms will be sent by coordinator to all partners before April, 17 • Must be completed and transmitted by email before April, 24for preliminary check. • Final version on paper (signed and stamped) due before May, 5. • Preliminary report papers from coordinators to be sent before April, 30
Contract amendment in preparation (1) • Main objective • Redeploy remaining TA funds on other activities otherwise approx. 0.5M€ will not be employed • Principles • Partners funding remains unchanged • Unit for TA access remains unchanged (KiloPageView) • Funds redeployment will be based on average of reported KiloPageView for the previous two years All partners will have to report approx. the same amount of TA access than the previous years.
Contract amendment in preparation (2) • Guidelines for remaining TA fund redeployments • approx. 15% will be redeployed on the new NA taskNA8.5 - Upgrade of Partners Data Centres web portal add “Communication about SeaDataNet”, others updates, … • approx. 30% will be redeployed to the new NA taskNA2.5 - Upgrade of Partners Data Systemsnecessary upgrades to make use of SeaDataNet standard in the NODC’s (vocabulary, data quality, …) • 65% will be redeployed to existing activities • Data aggregation for regional products • Data and metadata preparation / upgrade for SeaDataNet V1 • Save some money to organize an added training course about “Download Manager installation and configuration” Report on these activities will be possible for the 2008-2009 period in the limits of the provided spreadsheet
Implementation of SeaDataNet V1 • All components of V1 system are now operational Preparing data for data access is now the priority ! • Continuous data management and metadata generation • Pay attention on update of existing V0 entries to V1 (some issues to be solved) • Record new entries for these directories • Improvement of data access, two options Implement direct access to distributed data sets… using download manager automatic services • Implementation of « Download Manager » at data centre level Be part of the V1 interim option • Manual management of data requests using SeaDataNet web portal (RSM)
Regional products • Prepare the next generation (V2) of products • Define accurately the new products • Improve data exchanges at regional level in order to improve aggregated data sets (ODV may help) • Process the new version of products (DIVA) • Harmonize to distribution of regional products to external users • Common catalogue • Download and visualisation services
Next meeting(s) et IMDIS 2010 Conference • Plenary meeting 2010 will be joint with the IMDIS Conference 2010 • End of March (22-26, to be defined precisely) • Paris - France • A training course about data preparation for SDN V1 will probably be organized in autumn 2009(decision by steering Committee) • Regional Product Harmonization meeting ?
On a longer term, what could be SeaDataNet ? • Sustainability of developed services • Discovery services (common vocabularies, metadata, catalogues)Continuous maintenance of European directories • Data access services Interoperability within the distributed system mainly operated by NODC’s “Continuous operation of the distributed data system” • Development of new services, triggered by : • users communities needs (Research, Policy makers, …) • scientific and technical state of the art • New technical facilities • New scientific approaches, new observations, processing and analyses methods • New collaborations between marine research projects • new directives (Inspire, SMM, …) “Project mode”
On a longer term, what could be SeaDataNet? • Three complementary scales of work : • Pan-European, in close relationships with international initiatives and organisations • Regional (Basin) • Countries (EC Members States + non EC countries) • An appropriate funding scheme between EC funds and National funds must be reached for the two types of activities : • Maintenance of operational services (Copernicus (Marine Core Services), EMODNET, …) • New developments (DG-Research projects, …)
