Formula of AnointingRite of Infant Baptism Explanatory rite - (along with clothing and candle rites): God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, has freed you from all sin, given you a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and welcomed you into his holy people. He now anoints you with the chrism of salvation. As Christ was anointed Priest, Prophet, and King, so may you live always as a member of his body, sharing everlasting life. Amen.
Formula of AnointingRite of Christian Initiation of Adults Explanatory rite - when confirmation does not follow: The God of power and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has freed you from all sin and brought you to new life through water and the Holy Spirit. He now anoints you with the chrism of salvation, so that, united with his people, you may remain for ever a member of Christ who is Priest, Prophet, and King. Amen. When confirmation follows, explanatory rite replaced by: N., be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Consequences for Ministry 1. Shift in meaning of ministry since Vatican II • from trickle down idea to grass roots ministry 2. Shift in theology of ministry • from pragmatic necessity to baptismal vocation and mission • all baptized Christians have responsibility and obligation to work for the upbuilding of the Body of Christ 3. Baptism as Fundamental Sacrament of Vocation • All other choices in life are further delineations of the fundamental baptismal vocation and mission.
