The Process in Making “The Watermelon”

1. The Process in Making “The Watermelon” By Jacqui Morey and Paige Kendrick

2. We had to cut foam to fit the requirements for the outside of our insulator.

3. Since the foam was a little too thick, we had to pick out the foam to make a small whole that would fit the can perfectly.

4. On the bottom layer of our insulator, we wanted to have silly putty.

5. So, we put the silly putty into a plastic like bag to keep it from getting all over the place.

6. We then hot glued a thin piece of blue foam on top of the bottom piece of pink foam. Then we hot glued the silly putty on top of the blue foam.

7. After hot gluing our foam blocks together, we inserted cut ski long underwear onto the sides of the inside of the insulator. We then taped around all the outside of the insulator with pink and green duck tape.

8. We wanted to use Play Doh to fill the empty spaces on the inside.

9. So we fit little pieces of Play Doh into the corners of the insulator.

10. Our can fit into “The Watermelon” but we just needed a top.

11. We made a top out of the same foam an surrounded it with duck tape. We needed to make a whole in it so the thermometer would fit into it. So, we cut a small whole out of it with scissors and made sure it fit with the thermometer.

12. The top fit perfectly onto our insulator.

13. Because of the snow days, we will have to do the Can Challenge on Friday.

14. We think that “The Watermelon” will be able to keep the hot water hot, and win the Can Challenge!
