Introduction • Scheduling and coordination vital in restricted areas at CERN • IMPACT (Intervention Management Planning and Activity Coordination Tool) has been developed in-house • IMPACT tool linked with access system • IMPACT tool linked with radioprotection database Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Origins of the tool – needs • Legal background (France and Switzerland) • Need to authorize each intervention • Need to trace radiation doses • Most of restricted areas are space-limited • Need to optimize interventions - coordination Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Origins of the tool – project • 2010 beginning of LHC operation - 13 different tools in operation (1 per facility) • Intervention Management Working Group (IMWG) launched in 2011 to specify needs for common tool for experiments and accelerators • One single database • A web tool • Integrated with other CERN tools • Coordination with Maintenance Management Project (integrations with CMMS) Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – workflow Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – workflow 1. Prepare (CMMS, excel..) 2. Pre-schedule 3. Request (IMPACT) 6. Schedule 8. Report to coordination 9. Close Service 4. Approval in TIOC meetings 7. Support for accesses TIOC Operation 5. Approval (fire permits, DIMR…) 4. Approval Schedule Safety Coordination Facility Coordination Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 1 : Prepare • Listsof intervention • Constraints Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 2 : Pre-schedule • Several tools used at CERN, specific to services Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 3 : Request • Service fills request Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 4 : Coordinate Service side Coordination side • Coordination checks co-activity (date & location) Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 5 : Safety • IMPACT allows to pre-fill many safety declarations (fire permits, DIMR, VIC…) handled in other tools Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 6 : Schedule • Validation of feasibility • Fine tuning of the schedule Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 7 : Perform • Access granted only to people declared in an Activity and only between access dates • Attachment of doses to Activity • Weekly report to coordination • Only coordination teams can modify access dates Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Step 7 : Report • After access end date → status “late” • Status “finish” indicates end of work • Link with CMMS to get comments from technicians Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Request in 2013 • More than 11’000 activities in 2013 Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Current Status – Figures • 20’000 activities since 2012 • 4’200 safety documents attached to activities • 35’000 personal dose records since march 2013 Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Future developments • DIMR – access rights • Improved integration with CMMS • Enlargement of IMPACT to non restricted areas • Shutdown notification (« Note de Coupure ») • Lock-outs • Dig permit • AOC - Notification of work start Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Future developments - Planbook • Integrated scheduling tool using MS Project • Synchronizes dates from several systems (CMMS, IMPACT, local project file) Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
Conclusions • Success of the tool – only intervention management system at CERN • Enlargement of the scope => CERN-wide approach • Development still on-going • Training of IMPACT users • Training of CMMS users Asset and Maintenance Management Workshop
