What are Heliophysics Educator Ambassadors?? Teachers like you…. Who were trained in Anchorage, Alaska last summer to… Be a resource for information and hands-on, inquiry-based activities on NASA missions relating to Sun-Earth Connection topics, and boundaries in the solar system.
The HEA Program focuses on the following NASA missions: AIM 2. CLUSTER 3. IBEX 4. RHESSI 5. THEMIS 6. TIMED 7. MMS
CLUSTER Cluster is currently investigating the Earth's magnetic environment and its interaction with the solar wind in three dimensions
IBEX images will reveal global properties of the interstellar boundaries that separate our heliosphere from the local interstellar medium.
RHESSI Will explore the basic physics of particle acceleration and energy release in solar flares
THEMIS Investigated the events that precede auroral substorms. Currently being re-tasked as the ARTEMIS mission, which will study the magnetic environment in near lunar space
The TIMED (Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics) mission is studying the influences of the Sun and humans on the least explored and understood region of Earth's atmosphere - the Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere/ Ionosphere (MLTI).
* MMS will determine the small-scale basic plasma processes which transport, accelerate and energize plasmas in thin boundary and current layers – and which control the structure and dynamics of the Earth's magnetosphere. * MMS will for the first time measure the 3D structure and dynamics of the key magnetospheric boundary regions, from the subsolar magnetopause to the distant tail. * MMS will pave the way for future Constellation-type missions.
